HYDERABAD: Technology helps in re-engineering of delivery system of public services in the country and helps in not only speedy delivery of the services but also to utilise the limited resources to maximum extent serving a vast section of the population in the country, said Nandan Nilekani, former chairman of Unique identification Authority of India (UAID).

Delivering lecture on ‘Transforming Governance through Technology’ to mark the 33rd anniversary of Centre for Organisation Development, here Friday, the man behind ‘Aadhar Card’ said benefits of technology adopted for solving the problems at hand are immense. Cash transaction under Direct Beneficiary Transfer was one of the many uses of such utilisation of technology for problem solving.

Stating that technology might not solve every problem, but it can solve some, Nilekani shared his experience of working on Aadhar project.

Emphasising that digital infrastructure is as important as the physical infrastructure for the development of the nation in the modern age, he said lack of proper identity results in people loosing several opportunities in the modern world.

He said in the country, more than half the people do not have birth certificates and the situation is no different in several other developing countries.
